Course Summary: Another way to think about and supporting children with seriously challenging behaviours 

This is an introductory workshop focusing on children with disruptive behaviour disorders. The workshop will explore aspects of behaviour from a learning/ skill deficit perspective drawing upon collaborative problem solving and attachment models. The workshop moves beyond the basic behaviour management strategies of positive reinforcement and consequence. This workshop will add to workers options for supporting high risk and disruptive children with an emphasis on the family work context. 

Topics covered will include: 

  • Child development issues that impact on learning necessary skills 

  • Childhood experiences of domestic violence and parental mental health comparison in child presentation of disruptive behaviours. 

  • An overview of some disruptive behaviour disorders 

  • An overview of the Collaborative Problem Solving Model: Providing new learning opportunities for children
